Bobwundaye's

Open every evening, seven days a week, Bobwundaye's is a homey, neighborhood bar and music venue. At a cosy 14Ping, seating less than twenty, the bar is intimate. On busier nights (namely, the live music evenings) a crowd of musicians, artists, students and after-work-drinkers spills over onto the sidewalk in a hum of merriment.

Known to regular customers as 'Bob's', this pub is open 'til late. Translated from Taiwanese, 'Bobwundaye' means 'no problem'. These sentiments vibrate through this space and off of the graffiti-adorned walls as folk singers cry into a microphone and pint-happy patrons bounce about the front of the sardine-packed audience. Somehow though, this place is that bit better when brimming with customers - everyone's clinking glasses and chuckling over wobbly barstools in a way that may remind you of the last drunken hours of a big family Christmas. With the swanky Anhe Road just around the corner, the place attracts a fair number of expats. Still, the distance from Xinyi district makes this more of a 'kick-your-skirt-up-Sally' kinda joint.

Bob's serves up dinner and drinks. As far as bar food goes, the menu is scrawled over a blackboard daily and boasts light meals and fingerfoods - delicious fried foods, meat pies and great pizza. (If you're snacking, ask the bar staff what's good for the day. Astoundingly honest, they'll nudge you in the right direction over what to fill up with). Drinks here are very reasonably priced and Bobwundaye's has excellent, efficient service - even on the very busy live performance nights. A great choice of wine, spirits and cocktails and (hallelujah!) beer on tap. Particularly well-priced too. A really laidback place to enjoy a drink and some live performances from local performers, or catch up with friends without breaking the bank. Bobwundaye is easy to get to - near Luizhangli MRT station, in Daan district.
