Speakeasy Wine-Whiskey-Cocktail Bars Nightlife Recommendations

If you know your whiskey from your whisky and love a good scotch, MOD is exactly the place for you. Tucked away in Dunhua district, MoD is a dark wood homage to the highball glass. The address would lead to what seems like a dead-quiet suburban alleway but beneath a glowing target sign and pressed into a shadowy doorway is the heavyset wooden door that conceals MoD.

Stepping in, to what may seem like a private party in a cigar lounge, cigarette smoke twists over twinkling crystal glasses as waistcoated whisky pourers purposefully maneuver, with the grace of synchronized swimmers. Someone behind the bar greets you with a lackadaisically raised eyebrow, a smirk and a toss of the menu. But if you weren't sure of just what kinda establishment you'd stepped into, a glimpse at the bar shelves would set you straight. If you're a little too shelf-shocked to figure out where to step next, the bartender's recommendations are bolstered by an encyclopaedic knowledge of mixology. Staff happily offer a tour round the bar. Newcomers appreciate the whisky 101, while connoisseurs relish the selection stocked. MoD stocks about 150 whiskies - over 75 brands of Scottish, Kavalan or Japanese whisky, of various age or quality. The bar staff are experts, paying attention to both aesthetic and the perferct ratio of every carefully crafted drink.

A classy, cozy joint, with great music, comfy seating, a memorable selection and excellent service. MoD is a haven to hipsters and whisky connoisseurs. This whisky bar is great place for a lusty, low-lit date. Alternatively an excellent bar for splashing out on a low-key celebration or a late nightcap. As one of taipei's treasured bars, for well-made drinks, Alchemy is also an excellent choice of venue for impressing clients. This is one of the rare late-night finds in Taipei, staying open until 3AM week nights and 5AM weekends. MoD is near Taipei's Renai Circle - the nearest MRT station being Zhongxiao Dunhua.

Seats are limited in the cozy, class joint and it does tend to swell at peak hours. We advise you call MoD ahead to check if there are seats available. If not, sneak over to sister bar MoD Sequel, also in Daan district.
