Nanmen Market
Taipei
Refreshingly lacking in tourist, this century old indoor farmers market is located a short walk from Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall. The market rises and sets with the sun as it opens as early as at 6 a.m. and closes ten hours later.
At the crack of dawn vendors display their finest organic produce: carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, herbs and exotic fruit. Every imaginable kind of vegetable can be found here starting with purple cauliflowers and ending with white carrots. On the first floor, you'll find Taiwanese favorite snack food: bins of walnuts and almonds, sacks of seeds even sweet dried meat displayed in glass cases.
