Very close to Fulong Train Station, Taipei locals usually head to Fulong Beach during the holidays, especially in summer. Fulong is a golden sand beach extending over three kilometres, located at the mouth of Shuangxi River in Gongliao District in northern Taipei. Having clear seawater, the beach faces the Pacific Ocean and it is the most famous beach in Northern Taipei. In addition to swimming, a variety of recreational activities are possible here. Some even surf, sail, slide, fish and camp. A Visitor Centre is also nearby.
Every year, the Fulong International Sand Sculpture Festival, which happens around May, attracts more than a hundred thousand people, both locals and tourists. With its golden sand, it makes sand sculpting possible and makes sand castle fanatics try their hand on creating one themselves. So the next time you're in town, be sure not to miss it.
Those enthused by water sports will be pleased to know that both surfboards and paddle boards can be rented at the beach. The waves at Fulong are usually fairly gentle - good conditions for paddle boarding beginners. If renting a paddle board, you should ask for S.U.B.s - that's what they're known by on this beach.
It's advised to check the weather before venturing to the beach. Although it is pretty much pristine beach weather throughout Summer, those planning a day of surfing or paddle boarding might want to check the weather beforehand.
