This large estate was the home of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, leader of the Republic of China until his death. In 1996 it was placed under the care of the city government and partially opened to the public. The villa is not fully open, but there is a small exhibition there concerning the life and times of Chiang.
The main attraction of this location is not the villa, but its grounds: the gardens are lush and well tended, with flower-lined paths meandering through the many species of indigenous plants. Only a few minutes walk from Shilin MRT station, it is well worth a visit just to enjoy this lovely estate.
