Sun Moon Lake is Taiwan's largest body of water. For decades, Sun Moon Lake has been a mythical site for the native Thao people, some of who reside in the Ita Thao village just opposite Sun Moon Lake (try the local's hybrid apple-banana fruit if visiting!).
Accommodation is of more the luxury variety here. The spledour of Lalu Hotel and Spa Home come recommended. Those anting to spend less on accommodation may find it to be a bit bare bones. However, nearby campsites are also an option. Cycling is one of the best ways to enjoy Sun Moon Lake's breathtaking vista and there are plenty of bike paths nearby. Bikes can be rented for around 100NTD per hour. To get to Sun Moon Lake, take a direct bus from Taipei West Station. Alternatively, take the HSR to Taichung and opt for the bus to Sun Moon Lake from there.
