Taipei Guest House
Taipei
Taipei Guest House has always been used as a place to receive important visitors and dignitaries. It was designed by Japanese architects (Dougo Hukuda, Ichiro Nomura, Matsunosuke Moriyama) and completed by the end of September 1901. The mansion is distinctive for its size and elaborate Western ornamentation. Its flamboyant design was based on French Baroque palaces, such as the Palais du Luxembourg in Paris.
The lavish interiors and furnishings reflect the Western inspired sense of glamour of the 1920s. In 2006 the palace underwent an extensive restoration to recapture its original glory. There is a lovely Japanese garden behind the building. (Take note: this marvelous palace is open for visitors only few times per year! Call and ask them about the opening dates. You also need to show your ID card or passport.
