Xiyuan Road Buddhist Handicraft Street
Taipei
The Xiyuan Road Buddhist Handicraft Street (西園路佛具街) consists of approximately twenty stores and workshops making and selling religious gadgets and artifacts found at temples. The story of this market traces back a century to 1895, when it has been established as a market selling Longshan temple memorabilia.
Today endors are still selling paintings, beautifully ornamented boxes, medallions, pendants, all bearing the symbols of Far Eastern faith. The variety is huge, not only in material size and price, but also in style. You can purchase here items such as impressive Buddha statues, embroidered shawls and cheesy figurines. This small street perfectly complements a visit to the nearby temple.
