Queuing at Food Stalls

Queuing at Food Stalls

Taiwanese love food. It is a very common discussion topic and both big and small restaurants are scattered everywhere you go. You will discover that Taiwan offers a wide range of affordable and delicious food of all kinds.

The locals know their places so if you see a queue anywhere it’s a hallmark of deliciousness for Taiwanese. The locals don’t mind queuing up even for 30 minutes just to get their desired food from their favourite food stall. So whenever you see long queues at a food stall or a restaurant, you can be certain that this is where you’ll find the best of local dishes.

Queuing is something of a hobby of many Taiwanese so be careful of putting too much significance to queues. Mostly, it does mean that the food at the end of the line is good, but the queue can also be more of an indication of the reputation of that particular establishment. For example, when a Starbucks has “buy one get one for free” promotion event you can be sure that there will be a huge number of people happily queuing up.

Many Taiwanese will also join a queue just out of curiosity following the logic of “if there is a queue, it must good.”
