Classic KanPai is live with the merry effervescence of clinking Asahi drafts, ruby beef medallions hissing on hot grills and typically Taiwanese sing-song customer greetings. Conveniently nestled in Taipei's Xinyi shopping district, nearby the Viewshow Cinemas, this Japanese barbecue restaurant is a great pre-movie/post-shop stopover. The restaurant's better known for it's tender Waygu ribeye, chicken combo platter and beer on tap; but KanPai Classic also has the drawcards of sake and a sumptuous range of fresh seafood. In the Xinyi Mitsukoshi department store, eigth floor, this cult of the carnivore boasts some of the best service in Taipei. Animated staff are pleased to make recommendations and serve with a sense of showmanship - order the Waygu and the chef swoops down to your grill with a hunk of marbled meat, ready to slice to your specifications. Although not cheap, this haven to bold-faced beer and barbecue fanatics is great value for money and an entertaining way to dine.
