Beimen Main Post Office
Taipei
This impressive, three-story high building was completed in 1928. Shunichi Kuriyama, one of the most famous architects of the Japanese Colonial Period, was responsible for its unique design. Borrowing from a range of Western architectural styles, the building is an aesthetic evocation of European architectural ecclectism.
The elegant façade of the building is articulated by neo-classical double pillars. The interior of the building is very simple and complimented by very subtle and discrete classical decoration on the ceiling. The building retains its original function to this day. The post office stays opened longer (till 9 o'clock in the evening) than most of the post offices in Taipei, therefore it tends to be more crowded.
