Huwei Fort
Taipei
This fort (滬尾砲台), not to be confused with the nearby Santo Domingo Fort, is often overlooked by visitors to Tamsui. This may be because the view from it is not as impressive as that of its competitor for tourist trade, as it was built by the Chinese government in the nineteenth century to guard the road to and from Tamsui rather than the sea approach.
For anyone interested in military history the place is a treat since it was never under attack and therefore in a very good state. Also, the exhibition inside details the story of the failed French invasion of Taiwan in 1884.
