Best Expats in Taipei
Local Recommendations from our My Guide Taipei team
Although small, Taiwan is a place for all kinds of people, that certainly includes foreign expats. Many people have come to work and then fallen in love with what this small island can off, and it surely can offer all the conveniences one would expect for living comfortably as well as enjoy the variety it has. Taipei, it’s capital city, nicknamed “Heaven’s Dragon Country” by the locals, has its own flare and personality as far as a metropolis go. Differ from other cities in Asia, Taipei is both new and old: one can see traditional folk parades of gods with firecrackers beaming next to the ultra modern 24-hour western-embellished bookstore. You can also see a mixture of traditional houses, some similiar to Chinese style, others Japanese or just Taiwanese, placed next to 101-floor-high skyscraper. The expat scene is not as big as in other cities but it is still very vibrant and rapidly growing as more foreigners come to Taiwan as their traveling destination. Since the beginning the expat scene was centered around the Tianmu (northern district of Taipei), now it has spreaded into Xinyin Daan area, more center of the city.
