Der Löwe (Bavarian)
Taipei
Der Löwe Bavarian restaurant is certainly the best of Bavarian food in Taipei city. Nearly all of the ingredients are imported from Germany. Chef Stefan makes the sausages and meatloaf by hand, from recipes passed down through his German family. Head Chef Stefan is born and raised Bavarian. Growing up in Germany, Chef Stefan learned all he knows about Bavarian cuisine in his uncle's butchery and mother's kitchen. Well-equipped with a lifetime's lessons in quality meats and their preparation, Stefan moved to Taipei and brought the delights of Bavaria with him.
Der Löwe is a jovial restaurant, where the staff are very friendly and, with Bavarian-themed games, there certainly is a sense of Oktoberfest in the air! Beers served here are all Bavarian - cold Ayinger, Erdinger and Koenig Ludwig! When it comes to the kitchen, only Bavarian fare will do too. The food is nothing but authentic. Fresh German pretzels, Bavarian dumplings, schnitzel, sauerkraut, meatloaf, crispy roast pork knuckle, German mustards, weisswurst and all of the German greats that get in the arteries. While on the slightly pricier side, the portions, experiences and services make restaurant worth every penny.
Der Löwe is situated is a beery basement affair, which makes it a particularly appreciable respite on exceedingly cold winter nights.
If you're struggling to turn down the deliciously frothy mugs of Bavarian beers that accompan Bavarian fare at Der Löwe, you'll be pleased to know that you can get home safely via Xinyi/Anhe MRT station, just a short walk away.
